Turns out, fundamentals matter more than anyone would like to admit.

Over the years, I’ve worked with countless tools, libraries, and frameworks. At one point, I became fairly proficient across much of the JVM ecosystem. I thought that experience alone would compensate for the gaps in my foundation—the things I never fully stopped to understand.

Well, it didn’t.

So, I’ve decided to dedicate this academic year to stepping back and revisiting the why behind everything I’ve spent years building. Not just learning how to use a tool or implement a solution, but understanding the reasoning that makes certain solutions better than others.

My focus will primarily be on coding and design through the lens of core Computer Science fundamentals.

The goal isn’t to collect another set of technologies or become proficient in yet another framework. It’s to build stronger problem-solving skills, develop better engineering judgment, and learn to think in systems.

Maybe AI will automate aspects of the things I’ve spent my entire life chasing. Maybe some of the skills I’m doubling down on today will look completely different in a few years.

But Software Engineering is my ride or die.

I’ve spent so much of my life pursuing it that I’ve basically set up an insurance policy that should make it easy for everyone to bury me with it when the time comes.

If it ever happens, lol.
